Ragusa Ibla

Ragusa Ibla is a fascinating baroque treasure chest made up of churches and palaces in the ancient city centre of Ragusa. The borough, in which you can admire baroque and renaissance style noble palaces, was totally rebuilt after the earthquake in 1693.

The most imposing building and Ibla’s undisputed protagonist, considered a true jewel of Sicilian baroque, is the Duomo of Saint George which is protected by a wrought iron gate from 1880 and a grand stairway. The church was completed at the end of the 18th century, nearly forty years after the beginning of the construction. Its structure of three naves protects the 1926 stained glass windows which commemorate the 13 episodes of the martyrdom of the saint. The façade will impress you with its baroque decorations and for its structure which reminds us of the grandeur of Gothic buildings.

Within Ragusa Ibla’s alleys you can immerse yourself in a magical, timeless atmosphere.
