Marzamemi’s Tonnara
Marzamemi’s Tonnara (tuna catching area) is one of the most important such facilities in Sicily. It was built during the domination of the Arabs and in the first half of the 15th century was sold to the Prince of Villadorata, who strengthened the buildings by bringing in master carpenters from nearby Avola and Syracuse.
In the second half of the 18th century, a dwelling and the tonnara’s church were built next to the tonnara and in the first decade of the 20th century a tuna processing factory was built.
Today Marzamemi’s tonnara is La Loggia, the only big hall of about 750 square metres equipped with service and support premises which is ideal for hosting receptions, dinners, shows and conventions.
